biography
Richard hails from Co Waterford, Ireland. He has enjoyed a successful career in photography since 1966. He has worked in many fields of photography over the years, photographing celebrities, models, and magazine feature stories, invariably working exclusively at his London studio. His work has been published in innumerable magazines throughout the world. A clear uncluttered approach to photography runs through his work, some of his best images have been produced as beautiful Fine Art Prints and Posters, and a selection of his finely-crafted prints have been exhibited in a number of galleries.

Throughout his working life he has faithfully continued an enduring love of his homeland, his photographs of Ireland dating back to the early 1970's are truly masterful. Many of his finest photographs were published in three books "Vanishing Ireland" with text by Edna O'Brien, and "Ireland; The Parting Glass" which included his own recollections of his Irish childhood, this was followed by his latest book "Dark Ireland:Images of a Lost World" in which he photographed customs and traditional skills of an age gone by. He is arguably one of the most influential photographers recording Irish rural life, his outstanding timeless photographs are distinctively memorable.

He initially worked as a photographic darkroom printer, gaining invaluable skills that later became the crucible of his precise method of working as a photographer. After travelling the world working as a ship's photographer on a luxury liner, he returned to London and set up a press-agency business photographing many of the major pop stars of the early 1970's, including Michael Jackson, Marc Bolan, Queen, and many famous pop groups of that period. He considers himself foremost as a portrait photographer, and an element of that necessary attention to detail is clearly evident throughout all his carefully composed photographs. His successful highly-acclaimed film "The Brothers" won him a nomination in the Irish Film and Television Awards.
